artist's statement on the photo of the month I am an avid birder. I'm not an expert ,but I do recognize most common birds at a distance and with Sibley's I can identify most of what I see. I shoot lots of images of birds. It is normally best as a solitary effort, since I can wait for hours to get the image I want. I have also been known to crawl on hands and knees for hundreds of yards to avoid spooking a bird. Like most people, most of those images are of birds soaring seen from below or perched somewhere. I liked this image due to the unusual view from above and the large contrast between the bird and the raging river below. It is of an Osprey fishing over the Yellowstone River.
